    Metro City News

    Metro City Airport
    Loses Suitcase Nuke

    staff reporter Jasper Quirk

Noted super villain, Doctor Barium, attempted to menace a 10 city-block area this morning with a suitcase bomb. Barium was thwarted when he discovered that the airport accidentally lost his weapons-grade luggage system.

Metro Airport baggage handler, Floyd Greeson, unwittingly redirected the bag to somewhere unimportant in France. Greeson was hailed a hero for his slow thinking and complete inattention to detail. As the mayor handed Greeson the key to the city, Greeson said, "I'm not in trouble or anything, right?"

Though foiled, Barium's spectacular atomo-powered backpack carried him up and over a quarter mile before suffering mechanical failure, dropping him into a very tall tree. The reasons for the failure are unclear, although Barium suggested it was "too fine an operation for your puny minds to comprehend."

Barium was arrested and charged with intent to menace and would-be hooliganism. With no evidence, police released him several hours later.

"It's just. look, it's just been one of those days, all right?" Barium said later in an interview at the Metro City bus station. "I'm going to have to go back to Skull Castle and work on this." Barium swore that from that day forward, he would fly only with villainous carry-ons. In addition, he vowed revenge on Metro City and resident super hero, Bottle Rocket.

When asked for comment, Bottle Rocket was attempting to open his garage door. He said, "Wait now, what happened?"

    Monsters Book

I have been wanting to put my monster stories in book form for some time. I found out about a service called issuu.com that allows you to upload PDF files and it automatically turns the files into a fun to read book format. This is not the complete book but just a quick run through to see how the service works. The only thing I don't like about the service is the ads to the side of the book. It looks like you have a option to hide them or you can pay $19 a month for no ads at all.

    Camelbak information graphics

When Camelbak created a new line of water bottles for kids, Elizabeth Cruz of I am tiny studio hired me to create fun info graphics for the water bottle packaging. This presented a challenge because my work is very stylized and the client wanted the water bottle to look exactly like the one they sell. They also had me create the full body of the character because they were not sure at the time how they were going to use the art on the final design. To see those images visit my recent projects.

    Dinosaur Sketches

I was recently asked if I had any illustration samples of dinosaurs. I only had one recent dino drawing so I thought it might be good to sketch out a few more for the client to see.

    The Sleeping Dragon

The Knights are quietly easing their way back to the castle so as  not to wake the Dragon. This fun piece was originally created for Usborne Publishing.

    Laundry Jumble Game

The New Laundry Jumble Game is a fun learning game for kids. Children guess what item of clothing is in the washing machine by feel while trying to avoid pulling out the polka dotted underwear. In creating the illustrations for the packaging and game cards I used a lot of texture in the backgrounds and on the characters. The textures are a series of brush strokes mixed with funky, fun shapes.
